In the cardiology department we offer inpatient and outpatient treatment for patients with coronary heart disease and any other heart problems. More specialist treatment for patients is provided at the Hammersmith Hospitals Trust.
We also work with GPs to provide some services in the community.
Services offered
-
Rapid access chest pain clinic - introduced ten years ago this was the UK's first primary care physician-led chest pain clinic and the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease states that every hospital should offer this facility.
-
Investigations and tests including diagnostic angiography, electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiography and 24 hour blood pressure monitoring
How to access services
Referral from your GP is needed for most services including outpatient clinic appointments, tests and rapid access chest pain clinic. In an emergency go to the accident and emergency department (A&E) in the usual way. You will be referred to the cardiology department if you have cardiac problems. In the case of a suspected heart attack call an ambulance to take you to A&E.
The cardiology team
Three consultant cardiologists, who also treat patients at the tertiary centre at Hammersmith Hospitals Trust, lead the medical team. Cardiac physiologists, specialist rehabilitation nurses and dietitians plus support staff complete the team.
Our risk prevention nurses visit GP surgeries in Southall and West Ealing to screen men aged between 35 and 75, providing diet and exercise advice. At-risk patients can be identified and referred to their GP or outpatients for specialist treatment. Weight and lipid- management courses and smoking-cessation clinics are organised at the hospital. 8,000 patients were assessed in the first 18 months of the project.
The senior nurse matron manages the cardiac ward located on 4 South of the hospital.
